How To Speed Up A Slow PC

It seems that as your computer ages it becomes slower. Oftentimes your PC freezes leaving you in constant frustration. "How do I speed up my computer?" is something you are asking, and the answer is right at your fingertips. There are several techniques that we suggest trying on your own. You must remember that keeping a logical order to your PC is the key to efficiency.

One of the major reasons computers slow down is due to programs running in the background. Chances are you don't even realize it, but there may be software that was installed along with another program you installed, these are sometimes referred to as "helper programs" and you can eliminate a good amount of start up time by removing these programs. Go to Start, go to Control Panel, go to Add or Remove programs and look at your list of programs. You may see some programs that you either don't recognize or appear like you do not use them. If you are unsure which programs to delete, try using an anti-spyware program, you can download one for free by using the Pareto Anti-Spyware.

Another thing to realize is when you are working on files, especially large ones that use alot of processing, make sure you are working on while they are being saved in a local directory. This means don't open the file from a CD disk or from a network folder as the drive will take longer to communicate with your computer. It's best to put all your working files in one place, like your My Documents folder for example.

Keep everything organized the best of your ability. Periodic house cleaning should be done also. If you know of certain files and folders that you do not use routinely, you should archive them to CD-ROM, or storage device to free up space on the drive. After you have cleaned up files and folders, make sure to run the Disk Defragmenter utility to consolidate everything to one space on the disk.
